Hi! I’m Meghan Schuurman, a local Registered Social Worker, with a Masters of Social Work. I have 10 years of experience working with children and youth in social service and mental health settings in Ontario and BC, but more importantly, I am a person who has empathy and curiosity at my centre, and is driven by the desire to connect with others in the pursuit of healing. I believe that all humans are wired to heal, and that we need each other in order to do this hard work.

Taking that first step of pursuing counseling for yourself or your child requires vulnerability and strength. I hope to offer a kind, compassionate and gentle space to step into when you bravely take that first step. We need to feel safe and free from judgement in order to enter into the work of healing, and I endeavor to create an environment in the therapy room that makes that possible.

I believe in the transformative power of offering space for families, children and youth to feel truly seen, heard and understood. I believe that we need to tell our stories as a way of making sense of the world and our place in it, and that this process is unique for each individual. I am committed to walking alongside individuals and families on their journey of healing, providing reflection, support, and celebration along the way.

My education in social work has given me a love of ‘big picture’ thinking, and I am always thinking about the wider systems that influence our individual lives, and how our healing and suffering is connected to that of others. I believe in the power of healthy communities in building resilience in families, and am passionate about paying attention to the parts of our lives outside of therapy that help us feel more whole. Whenever possible, I love sharing my knowledge of local resources with individuals and families, or hunting down a niche resource that might work for a particular need.

I have spent the last 4.5 years working in multiple non profit settings focused on the assessment of neurodevelopmental differences in children and youth. These experiences have given me an in-depth understanding of the courage and strength it takes for families to access assessment and diagnostic services, as well as the need for mental health support that is tailored for neurodivergent children and youth. I am passionate about providing counselling services that build on your child or youth’s strengths, and are responsive to their unique profile. I try my best to approach counselling in a neuro-affirming way, and am on a continual learning journey of how to do this better each day. My personal circles are full of neurodivergent children and adults who help me see the beauty of neurodivergent thinking, as well as the ways in which a neurotypical world can be an exhausting one to live in.

Hello,

My name is Jen, and I am so glad you are here. I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a deep curiosity and love for learning. I have been working with children, youth, and families for the past nine years in a variety of settings including supporting children and youth who have developmental delays and/or are neurodivergent.

I hope to create a space where you feel safe, heard, validated, and supported to share your story. I work from a trauma-informed perspective that is client-centred and strength-based. My passion lies in supporting and empowering others, and my goal is to provide a judgment-free space to support you as you identify your goals and needs and to work collaboratively with you to help you pursue them.

I have a background in kinesiology and psychology, and kids’ yoga and love to incorporate movement and mindfulness into sessions. When I am not studying or working, I am probably hiking or trail running in the beautiful mountains I live close to.
